Question 900616: How much of a 40% alcohol solution must be mixed with 50 gallons of an 18% alcohol solution to obtain a solution that is 30% alcohol?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.4*x+0.18*50=0.3(50+x)
0.4*x+9=15+0.3x
0.4x-0.3x=15-9
0.1x=6
x=60 gallons of 40% alcohol solution
check
0.4*60+0.18*50=0.3(50+60)
24+9=0.3(110)
33=33
ok
