A chemist has a solution that is 50 percent acid. By adding water the solution is reduced to one containing 40 percent acid.
acid + acid = acid
0.50x + 0*w = 0.40(x+w)

By adding 500cm^3 more water the solution then contains only 35 percent acid.
0.40(x+w) + 0*500z = 0.35(x+w+500)

Your post should contain the amount of 50% solution
so you could solve for "w". It does not so you
cannot solve for a numerical answer.
