Question 820411: How much water should be added to 16 mL of 12% alcohol solution to reduce the concentration to 8%?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
two ways to look at this problem- from the point of view of the water and the point of view of the alcohol.
water view
.88*16+x=.92(16+x)
x=8 mL
alcohol
.12*16=.08*(x+16)
x=8 mL
I like to do both ways to check my math and make sure I set up the equations correctly.
