Alan has 30 ounces of a 40% sugar solution. How much sugar should he add to make it a 45% solution?
----------
Equation:
sugar + sugar = sugar
0.40*30 + 1*x = 0.45(30+x)
------
40*30 + 100x = 45*30 + 45x
------
55x = 5*30
x = (1/11)30
x = 2.7273 ounces (amt. pure sugar to add)
