Question 782257: How many liters of a 9% solution of salt should be added to a 19% solution in order to obtain 300 liters of a 15% solution?
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = number of liters of 9% solution
300 - x = number of liters of 19% solution
0.09x + 0.19(300 - x) = 0.15(300) {number of liters times percent equals total solution}
0.09x + 57 - 0.19x = 45 {used distributive property and multiplied}
-0.1x + 57 = 45 {combined like terms}
-0.1x = -12 {subtracted 57 from each side}
x = 120 liters of 9% solution {divided each side by -0.1}
120 liters of 9% solution must be added
