Question 769844: I need help with this word problem : A chemist wants to mix a new solution with at least 18% pure salt. The chemist has two solutions with 9% pure salt and 24% and wants to make at most 250 mL of the new solution. Write and graph a system of inequalities that can be used to find the amount of each solution needed?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
ASSIGN VARIABLES TO EVERYTHING
L=9% salt solution
H=24% salt solution
T=18% wanted salt solution
M=250 mL volume wanted salt solution, amount of solution
u= volume to use of the 9% solution
v= volume to use of the 24% salt solution
MAKE EQUATIONS
and
SOLVE FOR THE UNKNOWN VARIABLES, u and v
& then
SUBSTITUTE GIVEN VALUES TO FIND VALUES FOR u and v
