How many liters of 40% acid should be combined with a 20 liter mixture that is 15% acid in order to produce a mixture that is 25% acid? Use X= amount of 40% acid to add. (the equation will contain decimals)

Let = liters of 40% acid to be added
= liters of acid in 40% acid
liters of acid in 15% acid

You have 20 liters of 15% acid, so there are liters of pure acid in the 20 liters you have.

If there are liters of 40% acid, there are liters of pure acid that are being added.

Once you add liters to 20 liters, you have liters, and you want there to be liters of pure acid in the mixture.
