Question 711154: In the lab, Maria has two solutions that contain alcohol and is mixing them with each other. Solution A is 6% alcohol and Solution B is 20% alcohol. She uses 600 milliliters of Solution A. How many milliliters of Solution B does she use, if the resulting mixture is a 14% alcohol solution?

Answer by srinivas.g(540)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solution has 6 % alcohol and solution B has 20 % alcohol
mixture has 14 % alcohol
ration of solution A & solution B to be mixed to get 14% alcohol mixture = ( 20 -14 ) : ( 14-6)
= 6: 8
= 3: 4
so solution A should be mixed 3 parts and solution B should be mixed 4 parts
solution A = 600 ml
let the quantity of solution B be x ml
then 600 : x = 3:4
600/x = 3/4
x = 600 * 4/3 = 800 ml
so quantity of solution B is 800 ml
