Question 705187: A nurse has two solutions that contain different concentrations of a certain medication. One is a 20% concentration and the other is a 5% concentration. How many cubic centimeters of each should he mix to obtain 10 cc of a 11% solution?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39618) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(y*0.2+x*0.05)/10=0.11
x+y=10
Where x cc of 5% solution, y cc of 20% solution.
Transform the rational equation to 20y+5x=10*11, divide by 5,
4y+x=22
Now you have the system
x+4y=22
x+y=10
Subtract second equation from first equation and obtain 3y=12, then y=4.
