a chemist has 40 grams of 25% sulfuric acid solution. how much pure sulfuric acid must she add to get a solution which is 30% sulfuric acid.
-------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.25*40 + 1*x = 0.30(40+x)
------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
25*40 + 100x = 30*40 + 30x
70x = 5*40
x = 200/70
x = 2.857 grams (amt. of pure acid to add)
