Question 678157: When working with percent mixture problems, can the final mixture have a percentage higher than what you started with? I am trying to figure out the following question but I keep getting a negative answer. If I switch the numbers around I get an even one, but I'm not sure if it is allowed.
A 40% solution is mixed with an 80% solution to create a 90% solution. How much of each is needed to create a 50 ml solution?
Can a tutor please help me? I'd really appreciate it!! Thank you :)

No, the resulting solution has to be a value between the two mixed solutions
Another words in this problem the resulting per cent will be between 40 and 80%
Getting 90% from these is impossible, like negative values for substances
