Question 67103: I'm having to do an algebra review to start off the semester. I am able to recall doing these types of problems, but it's been a while. The question is as follows:
Suppose a fuel mixture is 6% ethanol and 94% gasoline. How much ethanol (in gallons) must you add to one gallon of the fuel so that the new fuel mixture is 10% ethanol?
Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
e = amount of ethanol in gallons
(e(100%) + 1(6%))/(e + 1) = 10%
(e + 0.06)/(e + 1) = 0.1
e + 0.06 = 0.1e + 0.1
0.9e = 0.04
e = 4/90 = 2/45 gallons
