A tv ad claims that 4L of paint will cover 40m2. How much paint is needed to cover 70M2?
------------
Area = 40 sq m/4 L = 10 sq m/Liter
-----
70/10 = 7 liters
===============
Or,
4/40 = P/70
cross multiply
40P = 280
P = 7 liters

You can use proportions as it can be said that since 4 represents 40, then what amount of paint, or L, can cover . This can be written as:

40L = 4 * 70 ------ Cross-multiplying

40L = 280

L, or amount of paint, in liters, that can cover of space = , or

4L/40m^2 = 1L/10m^2 then (1L/10m^2)*(70m^2)=7L
