Question 650791: Two airplanes leave the same airport at 6:00am traveling in opposite directions. The northbound plane is traveling at 450 mph(relative ground speed) and the southbound plane is traveling 350 mph (relative ground speed). At what time will the two planes be 2400 miles apart?
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

They are separating at the rate of 450+350 or 800 mph. They separate 800 miles each hour, so it will take them 3 hours to separate 2400 miles and 3 hours after 6:00am is 9:00am.
