let x gl of 20% alcohol solution must be mixed with 10 gallons of a 50% alcohol solution to obtain a 30% alcohol solution
so 20x/100+10*50/100=(x+10)*30/100
or 20x+500=30(x+10)=30x+300
or 10x=200
or x=20 gallons
