Suppose a fuel mixture is 6% ethanol and 94% gasoline. How much ethanol (in gallons) must you add to one gallon of the fuel so that the new mixture is 10% ethanol?

ethanol + ethanol = ethanol
---
0.06*1 + x = 0.10(1+x)
-----
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
6 + 100x = 10 + 10x
90x = 4
x = 4/90 = 0.044 gallons (Amt of pure ethanol needed)
