Mixture Problem. A pot contains 6 L of brine at a concentration of 120 g/L. How much of the water should be boiled off to increase the concentration to 200 g/L?
Brine is salt mixed with water. First we calculate the number of grams
of salt in the 6 L:

Each liter contains 120 grams of salt, so (6L)(120 g/L) = 720 grams of salt.

Let x = the number of Liters of water that must remain so as to have 200 g/L

                                          (xL)(200 g/L) = 720 grams of salt.
                                                   200x = 720
                                                      x = 3.6

So there must remain 3.6 Liters of water.

Therefore since there are 6 L to begin with, 6 - 3.6 or 2.4 liters of
water must be boiled off.
