A chemist has 400 milliliters of a solution that is half acid. She needs a solution that is 60% acid. How many millilters of acid should she add?
------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.50*400 + x = 0.60(400+x)
-------------------------------------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
50*400 + 100x = 60*400 + 60x
40x = 10*400
x = 100 mL (amt. of acid to be added)
