Mary drove 65 miles per hour, Kat left one hour later and drove 75 miles per hour.
If Mary drove 25 miles more that Kat, how long did each drive?
let t = travel time of K
then
(t+1) = travel time of M
:
Write a distance equation, dist = speed * time
:
M's dist = K's dist + 25 mi
65(t+1) = 75t + 25
65t + 65 = 75t + 25
65 - 25 = 75t - 65t
40 = 10t
t = 4 hrs was K's travel time
then obviously, 5 hrs was M's travel time

What was the total distance they drove?
65 * 5 = 325 mi
75 * 4 = 300 mi
