Question 603735: A store sells walnuts for 3.00 per pound and pecans for 5.00 per pound. How many pounds of each should be used to make a mixture that weighs 10 pounds and cost 3.70 per pound.
Answer by alicealc(293) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
walnuts' weight = W pounds
pecans' weight = (10 - W) pounds
3W + 50 - 5W = 37
50 - 37 = 5W - 3W
13 = 2W
W = 13/2 = 6.5
So, walnuts weight should be 6.5 pounds and pecans' weight should be (10 - 6.5) = 3.5 pounds
