How many lbs. of coffee A at $3.00 per lbs should be mixed with 2.5 lbs of coffee B at $4.20 per lbs to form amixture selling for $3.75 a lbs?
==========================
Let x = the number of lbs of coffee A
The mixture will contain x + 2.5 lbs
So the value of the mixture is 3.75(x+2.5)
The value of the "A" portion is 3x
The value of the "B" portion is 4.2*2.5 = 10.5
So we can write the following equation:
3x + 10.5 = 3.75(x+2.5)
Solve for x:
0.75x = 1.125
x = 1.5 lbs
Check:
4.5 + 10.5 = 3.75*4 = 15
