A residential water bill is based on a flat fee of $10 plus a charge of $0.75 for each 1000 gal of water used.
:
Let g = no. of thousands of gallons used
f(g) = .75g + 10
:
Find the number of gallons of water a family can use and have a monthly water bill that is less than $25.
:
.75g + 10 = 25
subtract from both sides
.75g = 15
g = 15/.75
g = 20 thousand gallons
