The average cost needs to come to $8 a pound. Thus, if 'x' is the number of pounds of $3/lb coffee the merchant needs to add, we have (3*x+50*9)/(x+50)=8. Thus, x=10. I'm sure the merchant will sell it for $9 a pound anyway...
