Question 563781: What quantity of 65 percent acid solution must be mixed with a 25 percent solution to produce 576 mL of a 50 percent solution?
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=amount of 65% solution needed
Now we know that the pure acid that exists before the solutions are mixed together has to equal the amount of pure acid after the solutions are mixed together, soooooo:
0.65x+0.25(576-x)=0.50*576 simplify
0.65x+144-0.25x=288 subtract 144 from each side
0.40x=144
x=360 ml----amount of 65% solution needed
CK
0.65*360+0.25*(576-360)=0.50*575
234+54=288
288=288
Hope this helps---ptaylor
