Question 560317: A high-protein diet supplement that costs $6.75 per pound is mixed with a vitamin supplement that costs $3.25 per pound. How many pounds of each should be used to make 5 lb of a mixture that costs $4.65 per pound?
I came up with 6.75x + 16.25 - 3.25x = 4.65 as the equation but it isn't right. I know the answer is 2 lb for the diet supplement and 3 lbs for the vitamin supplement but this equation doesn't lead to that answer. How do I find the correct equation to determine the weights of each supplement in the mixture?

your equation is good, except that you left out the 5 lb on the mixture side

6.75x + 16.25 - 3.25x = (5)4.65
