What quantity of 80 per cent acid solution must be mixed with a 25 percent solution to produce 528 mL of a 50 per cent solution?
-------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
---
0.80x + 0.25(528-x) = 0.50*528
-------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
80x + 25*528 - 25x = 50*528
------
55x = 25*528
x = (5/11)528
x = 240 mL (amt. of 80% solution needed)
