Question 557055: How many quarts of pure antifreeze must be added to 3 quarts of a 10% antifreeze solution to obtain a 30% antifreeze solution (Hint: pure antifreeze is 100% antifreeze)
I can not figure this out!
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the number of quarts of pure (100%) antifreeze to be added to 3 quarts of the 10% antifreeze solution.
x(100%)+3(10%) = (3+x)(30%) Change the percentages to their decimal equivalents.
Simplify and solve for x.
Subtract 0.3x from both sides.
Subtract 0.3 from both sides.
Finally, divide both sides by 0.7
quarts (Approx)
