Question 475483: .35*2m^3 + .15*6m^3 = x/100*8m^3 I'm not sure how to proceed from here. I got the solution online, but steps the tutor considered redundant were omitted, and even working backward from the solution, I can't figure out what they were. I need those steps so I can figure these things out on my own. Thanks for considering my problem. Ron

Hi,
Now that I am understanding Your question properly:
Mixing 2m^3 of 35% solution with 6m^3 of 15% solution
Generally, recommend letting x represent a 'decimal value' on the right side
Mixing
.35*2m^3 + .15*6m^3 = x* 8m^3
1.6m^3 = x*8m^3
1.6/8 = x
.20 = x |.20 = 20/100 OR 20% |Converting the decimal to Percent
mixing will result in 8m^3 of 20% Solution

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.35*2m^3 + .15*6m^3 = x/100*8m^3
-----------------
0.70m^3 + 0.90m^3 = x(0.08m^3)
----
(1.6m^3)/(0.08m^3) = x
x = 20

There is some ambiguity in the rendering of your equation, but I'm going to presume you mean:

Further, since you cannot solve this for other than to say is any real number, that you need to solve for

Step 1: Multiply 0.35 times 2, 0.15 times 6, and times 8.

Step 2: Re-write your equation:

Step 3: Combine like terms in the LHS:

Step 4: Multiply both sides by
