How many milliliters of pure acid must be added to 150 milliliters of a 40% solution of acid to obtain a 50% solution?
---
acid + acid = acid
1.00x + 0.40*150 = 0.50*(x+150)
---
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
100x + 40*150 = 40x + 50*150
60x = 10*150
---
x = (1/6)150
x = 50 ml (amt. of pure acid needed)
