.04 liters=40 milliliters..

4% of a 1 L NaCl solution is .04 L = 40 mL = 40 cm^3. However we want to find the mass of the salt by doing a unit conversion (had to look up the density online):

(40 cm^3)(2.165 g/cm^3) = 86.6 g
