Mixture to be 6 gallons of 30% alcohol solution

Let x and (6-x)represent the amount of the 40% and 25% respectively

Question states***

  Mixing

 .40x + .25(6-x) = .30*6gal

       .15x = .05*6

          x = 2gal of 40% solution and 4gal of 25% ssolution



CHECKING our Answer***

   .4*2 + .25*4 = .8 + 1 = .3*6 = 1.8gal
