Let x = number of 3 cent stamps
So the number of 2 cent stamps = 36 - x
Since the total = 100 cents, we have the following formula to solve:
2(36-x) + 3x = 100 -> 72 - 2x + 3x = 100 -> x = 28
The number of 2 cent stamps = 36 - 28 = 8
Ans: 8 2-cent stamps, 28 3-cent stamps
