Let q = no. of quarters

Write an equation for each statement:
:

.10d + .25q = 25.30
:
" has 27 more quarters than she has dimes."
q = d + 27
:
Replace q with (d+27) in the 1st equation:
.10d + .25(d+27) = 25.30
.10d + .25d + 6.75 = 25.30
.35d = 25.30 - 6.75
.35d = 18.55
d =
d = 53 dimes
