An auto mechanic has 300mL of battery acid solution that is 60% acid. he must add water to this solution to dilute it so thst it is only 45% acid. How much water should he add?
-----------------------
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.60*300 + 0*x = 0.45(300+x)
---
Multiply 100 to get:
60*300 + 0 = 45*300 + 45x
----
45x = 15*300
x = 100 mL (amt. of water needed for the mixture)
