mix should be combined to make 11 quarts of 80% antifreeze and 20% water mix?
:
Let x = amt of pure antifreeze
Then
(11-x) = amt of 50% antifreeze required
:
.50(11-x) + x = .80(11)
5.5 - .5x + x = 8.8
.5x = 8.8 - 5.5
.5x = 3.3
Multiply by 2
x = 6.6 qt of pure antifreeze
and
11 - 6.6 = 4.4 quarts of 50% antifreeze
