How many pints of a 10% cleaning solution must be mixed with 6 pints of an 8% cleaning solution to give a 9% solution?
.
Let x = pints of 10% solution added
then
.10x + .08(6) = .09(6 + x)
.10x + .48 = .54 + .09x
.01x + .48 = .54
.01x = .06
x = .06/.01
x = 6 pints
