A student finishes the first half of an exam in 2/3 the time it takes him to finish the second half. If the entire exam takes him an hour, how many minutes does he spend on the first half of the exam?

Let represent the amount of time to finish the 2nd half of the exam. Then is the amount of time to finish the first half. These two times add up to 1 hour which is 60 minutes.



Solve for to get the minutes for the 2nd half, and subtract from 60 to get the minutes for the 1st half.
