Question 294681: Hello Can someone please help me, I did try to answer the question without asking for help but now I just got confused. I posted the question and the answer I have so far but I am stuck, I am not good with truth tables.
Determine which, if any, of the three statements are equivalent. Give a reason for your conclusion.

I) If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is not happy.
II) If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is happy.
III) If the dog is not happy, then the dog does not lick her nose
HERE is what I have so far:
For example, translate "If the dog licks her nose, then the dog is not happy. " into p -> ~q and set up the following table
p q ~q p -> ~q
T T F F
T F T T
F T F T
F F F T
I want to say that the answer will be ANSWER: C II AND III but I do not know how to get to the second and third truth statement.
Can you please help me.
Thank you so much

Yes, II and III are contra-positives.
Negate each part and reverse the order.
p -> q
-q -> -p
