Question 283484: I have been looking over mixture problems, and am quite comfortable solving 2 ingredient formulas, but I do not know the procedure if there are MORE than 2 ingredients.

Example:

Candy A costs $2.00 lb & sells for $2.75

Candy B costs $3.25 lb & sells for $4.95

Candy C costs $2.25 lb & sells for $3.50

Candy D costs $1.00 lb & sells for $1.50

Create a mixture using all 4 candies that will sell for $3.95 while maximizing profits.

Set for just two ingredients

A larger output quantity will allow us to narrow in on the desired selling price easier, so we will do a total of 25 lbs.

Using only two ingredients, Candies B & D:

x = 17.75 lbs of candy B
25 - 17.75 = 7.25 lbs of candy D
