Two different teas are mixed to make a blend that will be sold at a fair.
Black tea is sells for $2.20 per pound, and orange pekoe tea sells for $3.00 per pound.
How much of each should be used to obtain a 4 pound of a blend selling for $2.50?
:
Let x = amt of $3 tea
it gives the resulting amt as 4 lb, therefore
(4-x) = amt $2.20 tea
:
A typical mixture equation:
3x + 2.2(4-x) = 2.5(4)
3x + 8.8 - 2.2x = 10
3x - 2.2x = 10 - 8.8
.8x = 1.2
x =
x = 1.5 lb of $3 tea required
:
I'll let you find the amt of 2.20 tea
