Question 26068: I don't think I set this problem up correctly, thought I would try...
Antifreeze A is 15% alcohol. Antifreeze B is 10% alcohol. How many liters of each should be mixed in order to get 20 liters of a mixture that is 18% alcohol?
I set it up like this:
.15X + .10X(20-X)= 20(.18)
I get confused on what to put in the parenthesis like the (20-X)
Thanks for you help.

Here is another one that I am stumped on:
We have 5 ML of 80% acid. We want to dilute it with 2% acid to get 10% acid. How much 2% do we need?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can't add a 10% solution to a 15% solution and get an 18% solution.
Check the statement of the problem.
Cheers,
Stan H.
