Question 260176: A jeweler has five rings, each weighing 18g, made of an alloy of 10 percent silver and 90 percent gold. She decides to melt down the rings and add enough silver to reduce the gold content to 75 percent. How much silver should she add?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The rings are 1.8 grams of silver and 16.2 grams of gold
16.2 grams of gold is 75% of 21.6 grams
21.6-16.2=5.4 silver needed
5.4-1.8=3.6 g of silver to be added to each ring.
