Let x = amt of 50% solution
then
(100-x) = amt of 25% solution
:
.50x + .25(100-x) = .40(100)
.50x + 25 - .25x = 40
.50x - .25x = 40 - 25
.25x = 15
x =
x = 60 gal of 50% solution
and
100 - 60 = 40 gal of 25% solution
