x+.28*40=.40(40+x)
x+11.2=16+.40x
x-.40x=16-11.2
.6x=4.8
x=4.8/.6
x=8 grams of salt are used.
Proof:
8+.28*40=.40(40+8)
8+11.2=.40*48
19.2=19.2
