Answer by JimboP1977(311)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d=15*t
d=25*(t-2.5)
15t=25(t=2.5)
15t=25t-62.5
-10t=-62.5
t=6.25 hours
So it took Colleen 3 hours 45 mins (from the time Colleen started) to catch Kacie.

Kacie started on her bike at 15 miles per hour. Colleen left 2 and 1/2 hours later traveling at a rate of 25 miles per hour. How long did it take her to catch Kacie?
-----------------------
Kacie DATA:
rate = 15 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = rt = 15x miles
--------------------------
Colleen DATA:
rate = 25 mph ; time = x-(5/2) hrs ; distance = rt = 25x-62.5 miles
----------------------------
If one catches the other their distances are equal:
Equation:
15x = 25x - 62.5
10x = 62.5
x = 6.25 hrs (Kacie's time)
---
x-(5/2) = 3.75 hrs (Colleen's time to catch Kacie
