Question 235038: I am confusing myself with this problem. We have regular yogurt that is 3%fat and 1% fat yogurt. How many pounds of regular yogurt and hom many pounds of no fat yogurt would have to be mixed to obtain 60 pounds of low-fat yogurt. I tried the addition method but not sure that I have the right answere.

Assume that he low fat stuff is 1%
:
Let x = amt of 3% stuff
The resulting amt is to be 60 lb, therefore
(60-x} = amt of no fat (0%)
:
Write an amt of fat equation
.03x + 0(60-x) = .01(60)
which is
.03x = .01(60)
.03x = .6
x =
x = 20 lb of 3% stuff
then
60 - 20 = 40 lb of no-fat
