Question 222573: hello I need help with two questions. 1. there are two types of tickets for a school play: student tickets and tickets for the gemeral public. the total cost for one student ticket and one general public ticket is $9. The total cost for 14 student tickets and 12 general public tickets is $112. How much does a general public ticket cost? 2. A merchant has coffee worth $60 a pound that she wishes to mix with 40 pounds of coffee worth $90 a pound to get a mixture that can be sold for $80 a pound. How many pounds of the $60 coffee should be used? I don't understand how to set this up.

14s + 12g = 112 ___ substituting ___ 14(9 - g) + 12g = 112 ___ 126 - 14g + 12g = 112

60(x) + 90(40) = 80(40 + x) ___ 60x + 3600 = 3200 + 80x ___ 400 = 20x ___ 20 = x
