How many ounces of water should a chemist remove from 20 ounces of a 20% sulfuric acid solution to increase it to a 40% sulfuric acid solution? Water is removed by boiling.
.
Let x = ounces of water removed
then
.20(20) = .40(20-X)
.20(20) = .40(20-X)
4 = 8 - .40x
-4 = -.40x
-4/-.40 = x
10 ounces = x
