"One thrid of a number is 5 less than half of the same number" ----> (1/3)*x=(1/2)*x-5

(1/3)*x=(1/2)*x-5

(1/3)*x-(1/2)*x=-5

(2/6)*x-(3/6)*x=-5

(-1/6)x=-5

-x=-30

x=30

Answer: number is 30
