Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x and y be the amount of .11 and .5 mixtures respectively
:
x+y=17..........eq 1
.11x+.5y=.22(17).eq 2
:
rewrite eq 1 to x=17-y and plug that value into eq 2
:
.11(17-y)+.5y=3.74
:
1.87-.11y+.5y=3.74
:
.39y=1.87
:
pounds of $.50 mix
:
pounds of $.11 mix
